Tribal Wisdom

 

Tribal Wisdom is a series of 7 one–hour films documenting the unique culture and the intrinsic wisdom reflected in the customary lifestyle of various isolated tribes of India. In a rare coverage of these indigenous people, these films present an experiential exploration of their sustainable lifestyle, social fabric, vibrant culture and unique traditions by the director/ correspondent, who closely interacts with these tribes.

The narrative is simple and emotive, communicating the importance of these indigenous tribes in that – “it is only them who may show the ‘civilized’ that there is no way of life, which may exclusively be called ‘right’ ”.

The tribes covered are: The Baigas of Madhya Pradesh, Konyaks of Nagaland, Apatanis of Arunachal Pradesh, Nicobarese of Car Nicobar, Khasis of Meghalaya, Irulas of Tamil Nadu and Rabaris of Gujarat.

The film is an experiential exploration of the Konyak people and their lifestyle as it exists today. It attempts to explain the unique qualities of the Konyak culture like the tradition of headhunting, cult of fertility, feasting and the wisdom of their customary way of life.

The Irulas Tamilnadu – literally ‘the people of darkness’ are the descendants of the ancient hunter- gatherers who have dwelled in the forests of the state of Tamil Nadu, situated in the Indian subcontinent, for the millennia. And like the name Irula itself, which is derived from the Tamil word for darkness, these people have lived in the shadows of what we know as civilization. A civilization that has much to learn from their Ancient Wisdom.

Episode5 – THE RABARIS OF GUJARAT

The Rabari’s of Gujarat are settled in the numerous villages spread over Kutch region in Gujarat. It is believed that this tribe, having a peculiar Persian physiognomy is not native to the region they now inhabit and have migrated from Iran and neighbouring regions in search of a new breeding ground for their herds.
